One Tesla Megapack with 4 hours of storage lists at $962,350 for a site in California and delivery in the first quarter of 2027. That is about $246 per kWh of storage, before taxes and installation.
| Order (Q1 2027 delivery) | Power | Energy | Estimated price | Annual maintenance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 unit, 4-hour, California | 1 MW | 3.9 MWh | $962,350 | $8,830 |
| 1 unit, 2-hour, California | 1.9 MW | 3.9 MWh | $1,028,580 | $8,830 |
| 10 units, 4-hour, California | 9.8 MW | 39.2 MWh | $9,099,280 | $55,580 |
| 1 unit, 4-hour, Texas | 1 MW | 3.9 MWh | $991,910 | $8,830 |
| 1 unit, 4-hour, New York | 1 MW | 3.9 MWh | $1,017,170 | $8,830 |
Tesla's Megapack design page, configured for Q1 2027 delivery, showed these estimated prices: $962,350 for one 4-hour unit in California, $1,028,580 for one 2-hour unit in California, $9,099,280 for ten 4-hour units in California, $991,910 for one 4-hour unit in Texas and $1,017,170 for one 4-hour unit in New York. Each estimate is labeled "Subject to change" and "Taxes and installation not included." Estimated annual maintenance was $8,830 for one unit and $55,580 for ten, with the note "Price escalates at 2% per year." A $10,000 "Non-refundable Reservation Deposit" is due when ordering. [1]
Tesla publishes these prices on its own site. The page gives an estimate, not a contract price, and the list above excludes the costs that usually add the most after the battery itself: installation, site work and connection to the grid.
Tesla describes Megapack as shipping "ready to install with fully integrated battery modules, inverters, and thermal systems." The estimated price is for the units themselves.

The list price is not the project cost
The configurator prices the battery units only. Budget separately for installation, site preparation, grid connection and taxes before comparing it with a turnkey quote.
The units on Tesla's design page hold 3.9 MWh each: 1 MW for 4 hours, or 1.9 MW for 2 hours. That matches the Megapack 2 XL.
In August 2026 Tesla started producing Megapack 3 in Brookshire, Texas, with about 5 MWh per unit. The online configurator did not offer it when we checked.
Electrek reported on August 6, 2026 that "a single Megapack 3 holds about 5 MWh, up from 3.9 MWh on the Megapack 2 XL," and that it is built at Tesla's Megafactory in Brookshire, Texas. [2]
Both versions store the same energy, 3.9 MWh. The 2-hour unit delivers it twice as fast (1.9 MW instead of 1 MW) and costs $66,230 more, about 7%.
Which one is cheaper depends on what the project is paid for. A battery earning from peak power (frequency response, capacity payments) gets more power per dollar from the 2-hour unit. A battery shifting solar output into the evening gets more hours per dollar from the 4-hour unit.
Ten 4-hour units in California list at $9,099,280, or $909,928 each. That is $52,422 less per unit than buying one, about 5.4% off.
232 USD per kWh for ten 4-hour Megapacks in California (vs 246 for one)
One unit: $962,350 ÷ 3,916 kWh = $245.75 per kWh. Ten units: $9,099,280 ÷ 39,160 kWh = $232.36 per kWh. Per unit, ten cost $909,928 against $962,350 for one: $52,422 or 5.4% less. Energy per unit is Tesla's specification for the 4-hour unit (979 kW, 3,916 kWh).
Maintenance falls further. Ten units cost $55,580 a year, or $5,558 per unit, 37% less than the $8,830 for a single unit.
The same single 4-hour unit for Q1 2027 delivery:
| Site | Estimated price | Compared with California |
|---|---|---|
| California | $962,350 | |
| Texas | $991,910 | +$29,560 (+3.1%) |
| New York | $1,017,170 | +$54,820 (+5.7%) |
Tesla does not explain the difference on the page. Maintenance was the same in all three states.
Maintenance starts at $8,830 a year for one unit and rises 2% every year.
214546 USD of maintenance over 20 years for one Megapack, at Tesla's 2% yearly increase
Year 1: $8,830. Each later year is 2% higher: year 10 is $10,553 and year 20 is $12,864. The total is $96,686 over 10 years and $214,546 over 20 years. For ten units starting at $55,580, the totals are $608,585 over 10 years and $1,350,448 over 20 years. These are our sums of Tesla's listed price and escalator; the maintenance agreement's actual term may differ.
Over 20 years, maintenance adds about 22% to the price of a single unit, or about 15% on a 10-unit order.
Megapack is Tesla's grid-scale battery for utilities and large commercial sites. For homes, Tesla sells Powerwall, which is priced and ordered separately. This article covers Megapack only.

Calculations. Per-kWh and per-kW prices, the volume and location differences, and the maintenance totals are our own arithmetic on Tesla's figures. Energy per unit uses Tesla's specification: 3,916 kWh for the 4-hour unit and 3,854 kWh for the 2-hour unit.
What we did not check. We did not request a quote or place a deposit. We give no figure for installation, site work or grid connection, because Tesla publishes none and they vary widely by site. We did not check prices for other delivery dates or states.
